The ninja outfit dates back the 14th or 15th century Japan and was used by ninja, known as shinobi, warriors who practiced the martial art of ninjutsu. The art of ninjutsu was a sort of unorthodox art of war that involved espionage, sabotage, impersonation and disguise, infiltration, assassination, and open combat.

In order for one to become effective in the art one had to learn to blend in with various sectors of society and when necessary become “stealth” in order to carry out a mission. This is where the ninja uniform came into play.

For many the term “ninja uniform” elicits an image of an all black outfit consisting of a hooded mask and all black shoes – often referred to as classic black. Actually, over the years, ninja clothing has evolved to take on many looks and function in a wide variety of roles in past and current societies.

Ninja Costumes Martial Arts

Today you can still find numerous martial arts schools and practitioners who keep the ninja spirit alive by wearing both traditional and modified forms of the Ninja outfits. Not only is the wear still common, but the study and practice of many of the tactics that were supposedly used – be them real or just folklore in origin.

Ninja Costumes Movies and TV

Some not-so-recent movies such as A life of ninja, Chinese Super Ninja, and Full Metal Ninja, feature characters wearing some variant of the ninja uniform. More recent movies and TV series such as The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman Begins, Snake Eyes GI Joe Ninja, and Kamui Gaiden do likewise. Let’s see what sort of gear the soon to be released movie Ninja Assassin has to bring to the scene.

Ninja Costume Video Games and Anime

The video game arena has also exploited the use of characters, uniforms, and tactics that are influenced by the art of ninjutsu. The number of such video games is large and more and more are hitting the market every day. To name a few we have Bushido Blade, Fatal Fury, The Final Fantasy series, Ganbare Goemon, and Battle Raper.

Ninja Costumes for Halloween

Ninja wear has also made its way into the Halloween scene and has resulted in a wide selection of ninja costumes for adults, children, toddlers, men, women, boys, and girls.  On our site I am sure you will find a suitable costume for your specific needs.

Before deciding on a costume, there are several things to consider:

Price – Of course, no matter how realistic the available selections, the final decider for many is always price. However, there is one golden rule when it comes to picking out the best costume: the higher the price, the better the material, the more pieces you’ll have, and the better your overall costume will look.

If you can only afford to get the least expensive ninja costume you can find, that’s great and you’ll likely still have a good Halloween choice. If you demand legitimacy at a great price, though, look no further. For those who are not as concerned about quality and realism, then we have lower priced selections as well.

Realism – Price is, of course, important, but perhaps more important is how authentic your choice looks. In this category, there are a number of factors to consider. The one thing that many ninja costumes have in common is the color.

Black was used by ninjas so they could attack at night under the cover of darkness and be the most effective.

The color black also helped to spur on the legend of the ninja as being stealthy and maybe even invisible. Nowadays, however, realism has taken a back seat and outfits have become more colorful to make them more appealing to broader segment of customers and also to help them match those worn by the many characters found in movies, animation and video games. Today it is not uncommon to see ninja costumes in white, green, and even pink for female ninjas.

Material – should be light and a little baggy on you so to enable freedom of movement. Ninjas did not wear spandex and although they often had bulging muscles, the outfit they wore wasn’t made to show off their physique. You’ll also want to go with a costume that allows your skin to breathe. Luckily, there are quite a few costumes that meet these qualifications available today and we should have a resource to them on our site.

Ninja Costume Accessories

No ninja costume is complete without a wide array of accessories. Now, you don’t want to be Batman and have a utility belt with everything from dental floss to handcuffs, but a ninja without weapons isn’t much of a ninja at all. The same is true of other accessories like footwear. Some ninja costumes, especially the high end ones, come with footwear. You want to go with something light, almost like ballerina shoes; however, you need to take into account where you will be walking.

There are lots of good reasons to find the ideal ninja costume with us, but for many, the most popular one is Halloween. For some, choosing the perfect Halloween costume is a year long process. They change their minds a dozen or so times and waffle on the decision until the last possible minute, only to go with a sheet over their head as a ghost. For others, however, there is no decision to be made.

The lure of a ninja costume is readily apparent. For some, it is the connection the ninja has to martial arts, to magic, and to a legacy unmatched in modern history. For others, it is simply because of the cool weapons, the long, sleek black costume and the way it makes anyone feel stealthy and invincible. Still, for others, it could be homage to the latest Hollywood blockbuster featuring hand-to-hand combat.

No matter what your reason for selecting a ninja costume this Halloween, we’re here to help with the best selections on the web. If you are costuming just for the holiday season, though, there are a few important points to consider.

• Don’t ever bring real weapons to any party or even to go trick- or-treating with your kids. Real weapons often cause real accidents. There are many cheap and realistic looking fake plastic weapons available, including nun chucks, throwing stars, fake knives, and even sais. Besides, if you should happen to run into the police while you are out, you don’t want to have a misunderstanding.

• The shoes are equally important. If you are taking kids out for a marathon trick or treating session, go with black sneakers. If you are going to a friend’s Halloween party, try changing over to your costume shoes once you get there. Good ninja shoes are the perfect complement to a high end ninja costume, so make sure you complete your costume in style.

Ninjas are an important part of legend and every Halloween season, and no matter what your costuming needs, you’ve come to the right place. Have a look inside to find costume that is suitable for your budget, your purpose, and your preference in style. My son got dressed in a ninja costume last year during Halloween and he loved it (I’d definitely recommend a ninja costume to any mothers out there who want to buy something for their son). He’s keen to get another one this year – he loves the Snake Eye’s themed costume.

This will be the first year our child dresses up. He was only 3 last year and still not really understanding Halloween. this year though he will be 4 and has already decided the costume he wants. I can’t wait – it’s going to be so much fun for him! Thanks for all the info you’ve provided about the Ninja costumes :-)

Hey, Ninja costumes have become more popular in recent times. We had a lot more people coming to our door last year in ninja costumes than ever before – maybe it was to do with the GI Joe movie…I’m not sure…I’ve actually seen a lot more marital arts costumes in general in the last few years.
